God
PART SIX
Now it is time for us to know about the
symbolic representations or forms worshipped by the Hindus as Gods. Actually
the temple worship was not started in KRITHA YUGA at all! It was started only
in the middle period of TRETA YUGA.
“Perceiving the inclination among the
aforesaid human souls to despise one another, O, Yudhishtra, the image was Shri
Hari was instituted by the wise, for worship in Treat Yuga. Thence forward some
people started worshipping Shri Hari in images with [various] articles of
worship, viewing them with great reverence. Though worshipped an image does not
yield the desired result to misanthropes…… ” Bhagavatham Canto 7. Ch 14: 39-40.
THE IDOLS WHICH HINDUS WORSHIP IN TEMPLES ARE ONLY THATHVA ROOPAMS AND
NOT THE ORIGINAL FORMS OF GOD!
The
Christians criticize Hindus as Idol worshippers, and tell that God will send
them to Hell. Actually the Christians are the Idol worshippers because they are
worshipping the idols made in the likeness of man and women. But Hindus are
worshipping the Thathva roopams which depict the Wonderful Characters of God.
Can anybody find a living being like that of Ganesha???
LET US START WITH GANESHA:
1. The very first thing we see in Lord
Ganesha is His trunk. An elephant has the ability
to pick a tree as well as a needle with his trunk. It can absorb water and can
spray it also; which means ‘God can give His Life and take it back [LORD NARAYANA did the AADHI YAGNAM BY GIVING HIS
LIFE AND TAKING IT BACK, proving that he alone has the keys of hell and death];
and again He can make us live by giving us
Life; and kill us by taking the Life out of us’. Ganesha's trunk also
symbolizes that God has both immense strength and fine discriminatory power.
2. The next thing we see are the big ears of Ganesha. It symbolizes that God hears all our prayers, not only
ours, but also all beings of this world.
3. Lord Ganesha has four hands and each of his hands symbolizes a great meaning.
In one hand he holds a Lotus which is the symbol of the Glory of His wisdom.
In other hand he holds a hatchet which symbolizes that when Enlightenment of God
comes in to the heart of a Devotee all the past deeds whether good or bad, of our
old karma get cut.
In the third hand he holds Laddus. These Laddus symbolizes the rewards given by God to His Devotees.
Here a very interesting point is that Ganesha has never been shown eating
Laddus. It says that a wise man never gets attached to the rewards of his deeds
because he understands that whatever deeds he do, and the gifts received by him
are the gifts of God, and gives all Glory to God alone. The fourth hands
is shown blessing to everyone who surrenders
at His feet.
4. Ganesha has always been shown with one
tusk only while the other one is broken. The broken Tusk symbolizes the supreme sacrifice done by the grace of God since
the foundation of the world.
5. Ganesha is shown sitting with one
foot on the ground and the other resting on
his knee above the ground. It means that even though he is the God of
the whole universe, and his dwelling place is Vaigundam, he come to the earth
for the redemption of man kind by placing his foot on the earth.
6. Lord Ganesha is shown sitting on the
rat. This rat is a symbol of our senses, which
are never satisfied. As a rat never gets satisfied and keeps on nibbling
everything, similarly our senses always crave for new things . Hence God alone
is capable of overcoming the five senses and sits and drives on it. So when the
devotee surrenders totally at the feet of god, he could also overcome his five
senses with gods help.
7.
Ganesha has the Eyes of an elephant which
symbolizes that He can see everything, and nothing can escape from His sight.
[Sarvagnan - Omniscient].
8. And Finally the Snake tied around the waist of Ganesha symbolizes that the entire
universe is IN HIM, and He has tied it with the Maya. (What is Maya? Believing
a Temporary reality to be a Permenant reality is Maya.)
Thus in a nutshell the Symbolism of the Ganesha Roopam.
NEXT LET US KNOW THE SYMBOLIC
MEANING OF NARAYANA ROOPAM!
VAIJEYANTHI GARLAND which has five rows depicts that LORD NARAYANA
has mastered the five senses.
SUDHARSANA CHAKRA SYMBOLIZES the Destructive Power
of LORD NARAYANA, which he uses for the extirpation of evil doers, and for
establishing Dharma on firm footing, and for protection of the Virtuous.
CONCH SYMBOLIZES the power of the WORD OF HIS MOUTH. QURAN
also states that ALLAH created everything by the word [‘KUN’] of HIS MOUTH.
BIBLE also states that THE ALMIGHTY GOD will smite the nations with his word.[Rev_19:15]
KAUMODAKI [MACE] [GADA] symbolizes the
Knowledge, Mental and Physical Powers of LORD NARAYANA.
FOUR HANDS SYMBOLIZES the LORD NARAYANA has
control over all Directions and also that He is the RULER OF ALL WORLDS.
PITHAMBARA VASTRA [YELLOW CLOTH WHICH HE WEARS] SYMBOLISES THAT THE
LORD NARAYANA is revealed through the Vedas, [Gita ch 15: 15 “……..I am
the only object worth knowing through the Vedas; I alone am the father of
Vedanta and the knower of the Vedas too.”] just as the light yellow color
reveals the dark complexion of HIM.
[21.
In Satya-yuga the Lord is white.
24.
In Treta-yuga the Lord appears with a red complexion.
27. In Dvapara-yuga the Supreme Personality
of Godhead appears with a dark blue complexion.
32. In the age of Kali, intelligent persons
perform congregational chanting to worship the incarnation of Godhead who
constantly sings the names of Hari. Although His complexion is blackish,
He is Krsna Himself. He is accompanied by His associates, servants, weapons and
confidential companions. Bhagavatham Canto 11. Ch 5].
THE SYMBOLISM OF LOTUS - Just as the LOTUS is
born in muddy soil and reveals its beauty when it blooms; LORD NARAYANA ALSO
COMES IN TO THIS CLAY BODY ON THE EARTH TO REVEAL HIS TRUE NATURE TO HIS
DEVOTEES, THEREBY MAKING THEM WORTHY OF JEEVAN MUKTHI BY GIVING THEM ALL NECESSITIES
FOR THE SAME.
NOW LET US KNOW
WHAT IS THE SYMBOLISM OF LORD VENKATESA:
We
all know that the temple of LORD VENKATESA can be reached only after crossing the Seven Hills, which Symbolizes
that the last avatar of Narayana [kalki avatar] comes to the earth only after
the seven ages or dispentions.
THE SUDHARSANA CHAKRA SYMBOLIZES the Destructive Power
of LORD NARAYANA, which he uses for the extirpation of evil doers, and for
establishing Dharma on firm footing, and forprotection of the Virtuous.
THE CONCH SYMBOLIZES the power of the WORD OF HIS MOUTH [Vedas].
QURAN also states that ALLAH created everything by the word of HIS MOUTH. BIBLE
also states that THE ALMIGHTY GOD will smite the nations with his word.[Rev_19:15]
THE PALM OF HIS HAND WHICH POINTS DOWNWARDS SYBOLIZES that the
devotees of Lord Narayana can receive the power and blessings and power from
him only if we humble ouself falling at his feet surrendering our heart and
soul and everything with love.
It
is believed that THERE IS WATER FLOWING UNDER THE FEET OF THE IDOL OF
LORD VENKATESA SYMBOLIZING the spirit
which he gives to his devotees [for their redemption] who were selected and
created by him before the foundation of the world, and participated in the
great act of ‘Supreme Sacrifice’. The river Ganges also flows from His feet.
(Gurudev Shri Lahari Krishna said : And Ganges is one of the rivers of the four
rivers - Gihon. (Genesis 2:13) Gihon means Ganges. So
that is why the Indian people say that it came from the hair of Shiva Peruman.
So that river is a holy river. Man wants
to go here and there and find out some satisfaction for his soul. He goes to
some ‘theertha yatra’2. Dips in the Ganges and comes away: ‘My sin are gone
away.’ If Ganga waters can take your sins away, there is no need of worshipping
God. Sometimes some people swallow a big rock and then try to heal it by ginger
water. And everywhere they go, they talk like a Godly person. They’ll say:
‘Salutations!’ Then we try to show humble. It’s the pretended humility! )
The idol is black in color which symbolizes the Lord Narayana
will be born in this [kali yuga] in this Indian soil with dark complextion.
The most important thing is the naama in the fore head of venkatesa.
Two types of Naamas used by the Brahmins namely VADAKALAI AND TENKALAI.
FOR BOTH THE SECTS PARAMATMA IS SRIMAN NARAYANAN - VISHNU IS THE
SUPREME.
But another important thing which we have
to understand about the Naamam is:
The Naamam which is in the fore head of
Venkatesa in Tirupathi is changed from ‘U’ shape to ‘V’shape-which is totally
wrong. ‘U’ in Arabic language means ‘La’ which is the starting letter of
“LAHARI” WHICH IS THE REAL NAME OF GOD. The people who make the idols in the
temples knowing the ‘Agama sastra’ know this Truth. This ‘LAHARI’ Naamamwas
kept secret by the rishis and yogis for many thousands of years. But this Name
is revealed now to us by the LAST AND FINAL AVATAR OF NARAYANA SHRI ‘LAHARI
KRISHNA’, IN THIS AGE. Knowing this secret only Shankaracharya wrote the Hyms
such as ‘Soundharya Lahari’, etc.,
GURUDEV SHRI LAHARI KRISHNA SAID:
What did Rajneesh say? “Don’t stop the
feelings that come to you. Do all what the feelings tell you. It’s like a
power. If you control that power, it will crash you. It will break you. Let it
do what it likes. I am telling you a name; just keep saying that: ‘Lahari’ -
that’s all.” Then, a lady came to Susie. She was giving this message. Then she
got a revelation: “That man tells a name. What’s the name of that person?” -
“Lawrie.” - “It’s the same thing which he tells us to chant.” And he tells: “If
you tell this name to anyone, your head will burst.” So fearing this, they will
not tell it out. So this name goes from ear to ear.
All the Bhagwans who meditate on that name
Lahari then only they get some relief. So if you go and ask them they say don’t
utter that name. Now some people divide that name, they say LA, LA, LA. they
say HARI, HARI, HARI. So that name will not be told. That is why God’s name is
cut into two and said Hari, Hari, Hari; In that name (Lahari) there is power.
If there is power in that name don’t you think there is power in Him who
possesses that name. So when I touch you, your inner heart will say... your
karma goes away, peace comes to you. Then you will know God is in me.
So I am going to pray for you, as I pray if
you have any disease you go to God, as I touch you this power will give you
peace, shanthi. Millions of dollars cannot give you Shanthi.
You
can go to the Kailash you can’t get peace. When I put my hand then you will
know God’s name. Because ‘HARI’, ‘LAWHRIE’, ‘LAHARI’ is the name of God. It is
His own personal name. Because it should not be pronounced they made it HARI
and LA. That is why you are not able to find out. But by telling this name you
get the peace, by telling the name thousands get the peace, don’t you think by
(my) touching you will get the peace. MAY THE LORD’S NAME NARAYANA BE PRAISED.
In
Tibet temple, one temple will say ‘La, La, La’, another temple will say ‘Hari,
Hari, Hari’. Because you can’t tell the name of God in vain. So today,
everybody know in part.
Adhi
Shankara got the revelation of that name. He says: “Soundarya Lahari, Anandha
Lahari” - he started singing. He sought God and he got that revelation. Without
that name no dead man will raise up.
Now we have
understood that the Name of God is ‘LAHARI’, and that it should not be uttered
in vain.
In the next part let us find
out who the Real KALKI MAHA AVATAR is through Shrimad Bhagavatha purana and
Bhagawad Gita.
